Visitor analytics

See how many people visit your site, which pages they read and where they came from — counted without cookies, without storing IP addresses, and without a script to install.

On this page

Every Zeloxa Host project counts its visitors for you. Open your project and choose the Analytics tab to see how many people visited your site, which pages they read, where they came from and what they used to browse. There is nothing to install and no script to add: visits are counted where your site is served.

What you see

On the Analytics tabWhat it means
VisitorsDifferent people who opened your site. One person is counted once per day, however many pages they read.
Page viewsEvery time a page of your site was opened, including reloads.
Views per visitorPage views divided by visitors: how far people read.
ChangeThe difference from the previous period of the same length, for example the 7 days before the last 7 days.
Top pagesThe pages opened most, by address. /about and /about/ count as one page.
ReferrersThe website a visitor came from, such as google.com. Direct / none means a typed address, a bookmark, or an app that does not say where the visitor came from. Moving between pages of your own site is not a source.
CountriesWhere visitors were, from the country of their connection.
Devices and browsersDesktop, mobile or tablet, and the browser family.
CampaignsThe utm_source of links you tag, for example ?utm_source=newsletter.

Choose 24h, 7d, 30d or 90d at the top of the tab. The last 24 hours are shown hour by hour; longer ranges day by day. Days and hours are in UTC. Under the chart, Show as table lists every number in the chart.

Your project's Overview shows the visitors of the last 7 days, and the Usage page lists them for every project.

What is counted

A visit is counted when someone opens a page of your live site, on its .zeloxa.app address or one of your custom domains. To keep the numbers honest, these are not counted:

  • Files that are not pages: images, stylesheets, scripts, fonts and downloads. Only HTML pages are page views.
  • Errors and redirects: a page that was not found, or an address that redirects elsewhere.
  • Previews: branch and pull request previews, and links to a single deployment. Only your live site counts.
  • Bots and tools: search engine crawlers, link previews in chat apps, uptime monitors, command-line tools and automated browsers.
  • Prefetches: pages a browser loads in advance in case they are opened next, until someone actually opens them.

Password-protected sites are counted once a visitor has entered the password. New visits usually appear within a minute or two. Numbers are kept for 90 days; the 90-day range is not compared with an earlier period, because that period is no longer kept.

Analytics and privacy

Analytics is built to tell you how your site is doing without tracking the people who visit it.

  • No cookies. Nothing is stored in your visitors' browsers, so analytics does not need a cookie banner.
  • No IP addresses stored. To tell visitors apart, a one-way code is computed from the connection and the browser, mixed with a secret that changes every day. The code cannot be turned back into an address, and tomorrow's code for the same person is unrelated to today's, so nobody can be followed from one day to the next or across different sites.
  • No personal data. What is kept is the page address (without its query string, apart from utm_source), the referring website's name (not the full address), the country, the device type and the browser family.
  • Aggregated only. You see totals and top lists, never an individual visit or visitor.
  • Your data stays yours. Each project's numbers are only shown to members of the organization that owns it, and are never sold or shared.

Because a visitor's code changes every day, someone who visits on three different days counts as three visitors over a 7-day range. This is the price of not following people over time.

Questions

Why are my numbers lower than in another analytics tool? Bots, prefetches, previews and repeat views within a day are left out here; some tools count them, and some count visitors who block scripts differently.

Why do I see "Analytics is being set up"? Reporting has not been switched on for your organization yet. Visits are already being counted in the meantime, so nothing is lost.

Can I turn analytics off? Analytics stores no personal data and needs no consent, so it is always on. Contact support if your organization needs it disabled.
